The Nissan ZD30 engine features a cast iron block with a single overhead camshaft design.

The engine's power and torque characteristics make it suitable for a variety of applications, including hauling heavy loads and navigating challenging terrains. The ZD30 engine features a robust construction and is known for its reliability. However, it has faced some issues related to its early iterations, such as premature failure of the timing chain and injector pump failures. These issues were addressed in later versions of the engine, and proper maintenance and regular servicing are essential to ensure longevity and prevent potential problems.In terms of fuel efficiency, the ZD30 engine offers commendable mileage, particularly for a diesel engine.
It benefits from the inherent fuel efficiency of diesel powertrains, allowing for longer driving ranges on a single tank of fuel. This makes the engine suitable for long-distance travel and applications where fuel economy is a priority. The ZD30 engine is designed to meet emissions regulations and incorporates various technologies to reduce pollutants. It utilizes an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, which recirculates a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine's intake system. This helps lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, contributing to cleaner combustion.
